/10/2007 : BMM Formula Student Team at 'Learn To
Win'
On the 27th and the 28th of October, the BMM
team had the opportunity to attend the 'Learn
to
Win' event.
This event was hosted by the IMechE at the Silverstone racetrack. It
was a
two
days event with the first day dedicated to
various presentations by the Formula Student
judges and associates, as well as a workshop
session with them. The second day was a
dynamic
event day
where the teams, which already had running cars, had the opportunity
to
dynamically test their cars in conditions same
as the ones during a Formula Student race.
More in detail, the presentations
where about the formula student event, the new
regulations
introduced this year, as well
as advising the teams on areas like team
management,
sponsorships, project planning, and testing, by
the judges based on there experience
both
from the Formula Student events and from their
own industrial experience. During
the
workshop session, judges as well as other
lecturers were available to the students for
a
tutorial-like 'questions and answers' session.
During this session we had the opportunity
to
talk with people who specialise in various
areas and discuss about the challenges
of
building a Formula Student and tips on how to
overcome them.
The second day was dedicated to
the dynamic events and it was as edifying as the first
one.
Although our team had no car ready for testing,
we had the opportunity to get a first
glance
on the various tests featured on a Formula
Student race. We also had the chance to
meet
students form other universities and discuss
with them about different design
approaches,
problems they had to overcome during the
designing and the manufacturing of there
vehicles
and, in general, learn from each other’s
experiences.
To conclude, this two-day event
was extremely resourceful and inspiring for all of the
BMM’s
team members and what we learned there will
influence the quality of our work and
the
efficiency of the
team.
